SF Zine Fest talks with Pat Tong
In three sentences, tell us what your work is about.
It's about sharing a feeling, hopefully, through the medium of drawing.
How did you first find out about zines? What inspired you to make your own zines?
My first zine was a mini comic by Matt Feazell called "Cynical Man." He was a big disciple of just do it! It's not so hard! You don't even have to know how to draw! Here, I'll make you a diagram!
What do you do when you’re not creating?
My day job, which is doing graphic design for a printshop.
What is an unexpected benefit that you’ve experienced from reading/ making zines?
Getting over my tendency not to finish projects.
How would you advise first timers on making their first zines?
Just do it! It's not so hard! Seriously, sit down and just do one. Give yourself a time limit and do it on crappy paper with a marker. Just get it on paper. Don't take it too seriously.
What are you working on for this year’s SF Zine Fest?
A mini about how to get dressed in the morning.
