Hello from the SF Zine Fest team!
Don't forget: the 15th Annual San Francisco Zine Fest is happening on September 4th 2016 in Golden Gate Park. Exhibitor applications will open on June 1st and close June 21!
Here's what else is happening in zines, art and comics:
There's only a FEW MORE HOURS to support Rosarium Publishing's fundraiser and reserve your copies of their excellent 2016 comics lineup, including the debut graphic novel of longtime SFZF executive director Liz Mayorga! Check out the Twitter chat they just hosted with their women authors of color to learn more about why Rosarium's work is so important to industry diversity -- and don't forget, if you donate before midnight tonight, your funds will be matched (up to $10,000) by bestselling author Rick Riordan! Thanks Rick!
On May 22, RayKo Photo Center in San Francisco is hosting their first ever Photo Zine Fest! Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about exhibiting.
Zine Queens is a zine fest for queer and trans people happening in Long Beach, CA on May 22 - visit the Facebook event page for more information!
Omi Gallery's 'Dear Brother' exhibit is closing soon and on May 16, Impact Hub Oakland is hosting "Decolonizing Comics" -- a closing night panel featuring comic artists of color, including SFZF's own Avy Jetter. RSVP is required - find out more here!
On Saturday May 28, 'come for the ZINES, stay for the FEELS.' Feels V is an immersive art + music experience in the heart of West Oakland, hosted by Wine & Bowties.
Also on May 28, hop over to the San Francisco Public Library main branch to check out the Latino Comics Expo's "History of Latino Comics" event -- you KNOW you want Ricardo to tell you all about the '60s underground Latino comix scene!
The third annual Queer Comics Expo will be held at SOMArts in San Francisco on June 18-19. The Queer Comics Expo is part of the annual National Queer Arts Festival, via the Cartoon Art Museum’s partnership with the Queer Cultural Center. Ticket pre-sales will be happening soon!
The Sacramento Black Book Fair is happening June 3-5! The celebration will include panels, book signings, talks, cultural & food vendors, book discussions, children’s activities, poetry readings, art displays, and much more.
The first ever Creators For Creators grant just opened for applications, brought to you by some of the smartest folks in indie publishing. Get on that and make your comic a reality!
Remember your favorite photo from SFZF 2015? Chances are very, very good it was taken by the incredibly talented Liz Acosta, who's dealing with some unexpected medical bills right now. Please consider donating to her cancer treatment fund.
Longtime SFZF organizer Ramon Solis is fundraising for AIDS LifeCycle! Donate to the cause to help make HIV/AIDS a thing of the past. (and see teenaged Ramon sporting a cool perm!)
And finally, this last weekend in Chicago, our SFZF2015 poster (designed by our guest of honor Madeleine Flores) hung on the wall of Chicago Zine Fest's reading room, along with posters from other fests from across the country! This is a great idea which we're definitely going to steal.
Are you making something cool happen in or around the Bay Area zine scene? Want to tell us about something great? Let us know! Reply to this email, or hit us up on Twitter and Facebook.
We hope you have a wonderful May, and we will see you in September!
